Date of Death:
August 16, 2012
Richmond, British Columbia, Canada

Vivian John Lee was born August 27, 1919 in Georgetown, Guyana, he passed on August 16 at the age of 92 in Richmond, Canada.  He was surrounded by his wife and 2 of his daughters. He succumbed to complications from a stroke he had on August 2.

Vivian was the only child of William Lee and Adelaide De Freitas. Vivian is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Isabelle and along with his 7 children, Ronald, Jennifer, Kenneth, Anthony, Delicia, Catherine and Mary, his 11 grand-children and 5 great-grand-children.
He was one of the pioneers of early broadcasting and entertainment in the 1950s at Radio Demerara in Guyana, South America and ran a successful advertising and music business up to the late 1970’s. He also wrote, produced and acted in Guyana's first motion picture movie "If Wishes Were Horses" which had great success in Guyana.
In 1985, after seven years in France, Vivian and Isabelle moved their family to Vancouver, Canada. In Vancouver, he was one of the founders of the Guyanese Cultural Association of BC. He believed in continous learning and at the age of 72 he received his Bachelor's Degree from the University Of British Columbia.
He was always an entrepreneur at heart and his creative mind kept him busy. In 1996, he created an award-winning educational board game called "Flying High - Around the World in 80 Plays". In 2004, he wrote and edited a book called " Super Seniors", which chronicled inspiring life stories of people like him who were 65 and over.
He loved to travel and even at 92, with his wife Isabelle, he was travelling the world.
Vivian will be dearly missed by his family, friends and the people who had the opportunity to meet this remarkable man. May his precious memories live forever in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be taken for St. John Bosco's Orphanage in Guyana, which Vivian and Isabelle supported.  If you wish to donate, please contact Isabelle at
