Helen Detke, aged 71, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 surrounded by her family. Helen had battled cancer for the past year.
Helen was born on December 18, 1941 in Klaje, Russia, near Pskov, to Igor and
Anfisa (Artemenko) Gousseff. The family emigrated to the United States in 1951,
when Helen was 10 years old, and settled in East Meadow, Long Island where
Helen grew up.
Helen was a
life long member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in East Meadow from the time
she came to the United States. There she
met and married her husband, Richard Detke, in 1964. They were happily married for 27 years when
Richard passed away suddenly in 1991.
Helen is survived by her mother, Anfisa Gousseff, her three children,
Laura, Serge and Eugene, her sister, Lily Wadiak, her brother, Alex Gousseff, her sister-in-law, Virginia Jerosh and her three granddaughters Anna Sophia, Alexa and
lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Helen’s memory can be made to Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, East Meadow, NY or the Orthodox Church in America.
