Harry Franklin Lane, Tennessee Tech Professor Emeritus, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, in Cookeville from complications of diabetes.
Mr. Lane was born July 27, 1936, in Lyons, GA.  He graduated from the University of Georgia with a BS in Geology in 1959 and MA in Geography in 1963.  He did further graduate work in Geography at University of Kansas 1961-64, and taught Geography at Tennessee Tech for 34 years before his retirement in 1998.
 He  was an artist, enjoying working with oils, pastels, and acrylics,  and he  was well known in Cookeville during his retirement  years for sketching fellow coffee drinkers at the donut shop. He had many other interests and hobbies, including stone masonry, wood-working, photography, and traveling with his wife and family. His travels took him to 49 of the 50 states, to Canada, Mexico,  Morocco, Russia, and many European countries.  Among his favorite destinations were Vienna, Austria;  Venice, Italy;  and the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
He  will be remembered for his dedication to his wife and sons , his many creative talents, and his strength of character.
His family includes  his beloved wife of almost 53 years, Melba Wages Lane of Cookeville;  their three sons,  Kirk Jefferson Lane and wife Jill of  Salt Lake City, UT;  Derek Brent Lane and wife Melanie, Clarkrange, TN; and Gavin Breck Lane and wife Michelle, Peoria, IL; four grandchildren, Anna-Grace and Emory Lane of Clarkrange, and Madelynne and Gabrielle Lane of  Peoria;  his twin brother Richard Larry Lane and wife Robbie, Rome GA, and an older brother  James Emory Lane and wife Betty, Orlando FL, and seven dear nieces and nephews.
 In addition to his parents, John E.  and Gertrude Little Lane of Lyons, GA,  Mr. Lane was preceded in death by  two sisters,  Helen Lane Sanders of Macon, GA, and Muriel Lane DeLoach of Plant City, FL.
The family will receive visitors at Crest Lawn Funeral Home on Saturday, May 18,  7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  The funeral  will be Sunday at 3:00 at the funeral home and officiated by Albert C. Thompson III.
